How long do screen printing inks last outdoors?

This is not an easy question to answer as there are many types of screen inks with different lightfast properties. As a general rule UV cured inks will last up to 2-3 years in most outdoor situations, BUT if it is a north facing aspect of less than 90 degrees then the fade resistance is much lower. There are specific UV curing inks that are warranted for up to 5 years in certain applications.

What is the largest size you can print in one piece?

At Brite we have a Svecia Jumbo machine that will print one piece of substrate 1.5metres wide x 3.2meters long. Digitally on flexible substrates we can print up to 3.2metres wide x any length (this of course is dependent on substrate availability)

What is the quantity breakpoint between screen and digital printing?

This depends very much on the physical dimensions of the job, the expense of the substrates and the finishing applications involved. With digital printing a lower proportion of spares or overs are required therefore if the substrate is expensive this will play a major part in the total cost.

What is the difference between dpi and ppi?

Even though many industry professionals use the terms dpi (dots per inch) and ppi (pixels per inch) interchangeably, they shouldn't. Printer ink dots and image pixels are simply very different things; dpi is a measurement of printed dots per inch on paper and ppi refers to the number of picture elements (pixels) gathered by a scanner or viewable on a monitor. There is no one to one correlation between the resolution of digital data (eg. 300 ppi) and the resolution of a printed image (eg. 300 dpi).
